CYCLOPS watch by MR JONES WATCHES
this is a watch that was designed by DEZEEN and MR. JONES WATCHES and displays the time by displaying colors through a circular hour marker….i don’t think this watch would be easy to quickly tell time but i love how colorful and simple the face is, it reminds me of a paint palette and i love the MR. JONES WATCHES logo…this would be a great addition to a white tee, a pair of jeans and a picnic in the park

this CABBAGE CHAIR by NENDO is made of waste paper from the pleated fabric industry.. the layers of the chair are peeled down after one side of the cylinder is sliced to begin the process…what i like about this chair is how simple the concept is (similar to a flower budding) and how it is made from recycled content…i’m not sure how comfortable this chair would be but i think it would be a great addition to a room as more of a display piece rather than a seat

FLOAT HOUSE by MORPHOSIS
this is a house designed and built for brad pitt’s MAKE IT RIGHT FOUNDATION in new orleans…what first drew me to this house was its playful exterior and use of colors, patterns and crooked shapes but what made me like it even more is how it is designed to be affordable and withstand flooding…basically it is designed to act as a raft as the water level rises and can be risen up to 3.7 meters and is secured in place by posts…i think this a great example of how good things can come out of a disaster and a very creative way to solve new orlean’s housing and flooding issues

LOUIS KALFF table lamp
i found this lamp on WWW.REWEIRE.COM and fell in love with it…it’s a 1950’s enameled metal lamp that is on sale for over $3,000, way above my price range but this website is full of great vintage lamps and lighting fixtures if you’re in the mood to browse through some photos for inspiration

stool by JAKUB PIOTR KALINOWSKI
this is an origami inspired stool that is made of folded metal and can be stacked…this stool is easily manufactured and can be stored efficiently…i think these stools would be great on an outdoor patio that has multiple functions and i think they could also be used as an interesting/artistic side table…i would also like to see them in a variety of metals or even plastic

HILA GAON bridal store by K1P3

HILA GAON bridal store by K1P3
the images above are from a bridal store in tel aviv…from the wedding/bridal stores that i have seen i’ve been very disappointed by the lack of creativity and design in the stores and showrooms…a bridal store/showroom should be one that highlights the design of the gowns and displays them in an elegant and sophisticated way and this design does that in a chic, modern way

FOUND by OSCAR DIAZ
this is a line of cutlery designed by spanish designer OSCAR DIAZ that is produced by chopping up plastic bottles and coating them first with copper then with tin…this project is a fresh twist on recycling and also shows us how we can find design in unsuspecting places

TERMITE PAVILION
above is an image of the TERMITE PAVILION outside london’s royal festival hall as part of pestival (an insect-inspired festival), this project is a collaboration between softroom architects, freeform engineering, atelier one, sound recording specialist chris watson and haberdashery…this installation represetns a section of a termite mound that has been scaled up 15x and it also has sound recordings from inside a termite mound and the lighting dims and brightens to represent breathing…this seemingly organic structure is one that has much scientific work behind it and this makes it even more appealing, there is much to learn from the structure of these mounds and i would love to see this design turned into a building

HOUSE BIERINGS by ROCHA TOMBAL

HOUSE BIERINGS by ROCHA TOMBAL

HOUSE BIERINGS by ROCHA TOMBAL
these images are taken by photographer CHRISTIAN RICHTERS of a house in utrecht, netherlands by architect ROCHA TOMBAL…the house is clad in timber and it’s protuding windows are positioned to frame views of the countryside and avoid views of the neighbouring buildings…what i really admire about this house is how it combines modern and classic home design, it’s simple use of materials create a rythmic, textured wooden ‘drape’ that is sliced by the protuding windows…the careful attention that the window’s views were given is an example of exactly how designers should be thinking, along with form and exterior’s design i also love the einterior and the how the stair slices into the wooden wall that displays a simple set of bookshelves…this is definitely a place i would like to live
today i found out about a multimedia project that started this year out of NY and LA…in their own words they describe their project:
“The emphasis of the magazine is the interaction between culture and art; the magazine will include high-end design work, selected fiction, and transcribed conversations with culturally relevant figures.”
after exploring their website for a bit (www.epiloguemagazine.com) i was very intrigued and inspired by the artists, photographers, designers, etc. that they have featured….they’ve collected together an eclectic group from all across the country and have presented them in an academic/ understated way that simply highlights the people’s work, it’s definitely a great place to scope out the young talent across the country
